Sat., April 21 is National Auctioneers Day

EJ’s Auction & Consignment Hosts Fun Amateur Chanting Contest

GLENDALE (April 9, 2018) – National Auctioneers Day is Saturday, April 21, and to celebrate, EJ’s Auction & Consignment is hosting a chanting contest with a great pair of Diamondback tickets up for grabs for the grand-prize winner.

The Glendale auction house will open at 9 a.m. to celebrate one of the world’s oldest professions, dating back more than 2,000 years. EJ’s “Auctioneer Chanting Contest” will begin at 9:15 a.m. and give amateurs of all ages a chance to show off their cadence and bid calling skills. The grand prize winner will be announced before the day’s auctions begin at 10 a.m.

Each contestant will have a set number of time to bid call an item that is not in that day’s auction and they will be judged on criteria, such as poise, voice control, speed, rhythm, eye contact, salesmanship and more. EJ’s staff will act as bidders to help contestants experience what the interaction is like for real auctioneers.

Erik Hoyer, owner and auctioneer of EJ’s Auction & Consignment, said the energy of attending a live auction is addicting.

“The auctioneer’s chant definitely adds to the excitement. It’s a skill that can be mastered with practice, and we’re eager to see what type of talent may be discovered during our competition,” Hoyer said.

During the April 21st Auctioneers Day, those who register to bid live at EJ’s will get a free hot dog.

There is no fee to enter the chanting contest on April 21, but space is limited. Interested contestants can reserve a spot by calling EJ’s at (623) 878-2003.

EJ’s Auction & Consignment is located at 5880 W. Bell Road, on the northeast corner of 59th Avenue and Bell Road. EJ’s conducts three live simultaneous auctions every Saturday starting at 10 a.m. (doors open at 9 a.m.). Patrons visiting EJ’s can also preview items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and bid online.
