The Marguerite Joy Doll Collection to be Auctioned March 7

Two-generation collection features more than 1,000 dolls and accessories

GLENDALE, Ariz. (Feb. 27, 2020) – A two-generation collection featuring more than 1,000 dolls and accessories will hit the auction block on Saturday, March 7 at EJ’s Auction & Appraisal. “The Marguerite Joy Doll Collection” features antique dolls, including Jumeau, Kammer & Reinhardt, Bahr & Proschild, Armand Marseille, Alt, Beck & Gottschalck, Simon Halbig and many others.
The collection was started by Margaret “Margie” Devine and passed on to her daughter, Marguerite “Peggy” Joy, of Scottsdale. Joy’s passion for collecting spanned a lifetime, and she loved the hunt of finding treasured dolls.

“My mom had seven children or her own, but she still found time for her dolls,” Lindsey Davison said. “We often joined her as she searched through antique stores, thrift shops and rummage sales. She especially sought out the beloved bisque head antiques. She was a member of The Classic and Contemporary Doll Club of Long Island, New York, and she was on first name basis with many proprietors of local antique shops and some in New York City.”

When Joy inherited her mother’s collection, she extended her interests into contemporary dolls, miniatures, and dolls from foreign lands. She also developed expertise in designing and sewing high fashion outfits for Barbie and other dolls.

EJ’s Auction & Appraisal’s CEO Erik Hoyer said the full-service auction house is already receiving interest in the unique doll collection.

“Not only is this a very impressive, diverse collection, the dolls are in very good condition,” Hoyer said.

Hoyer also said that there has been a renewed interest in doll collecting, thanks to the recent popularity of American Girl and other dolls.

“There are many categories for collecting…some people focus on a time period, such as antique, vintage or modern. Others may expand their doll collections to include toys, miniatures and bears. Even books, accessories and parts can do well at auction, depending on demand,” Hoyer said.

EJ’s Auction & Appraisal conducts exciting, high-energy auctions at 10 a.m. every Saturday at the full-service auction house, located at 5880 W. Bell Road, in Glendale on the northeast corner of 59th Avenue and Bell Road.
